I’m going to make a sweeping statement…the general core of Nantucket is more preppy, but of course it’s not the entire mood nor is it all you see. Over the years it’s been seeming to attract the “instagram dresser”, a term I’ve coined for those who base their persona style solely on what they see on social media, on an influencer, or on there friends.
No-matter what the core style of somewhere is, I still like to advise people on dressing appropriate for a destination (as in the atmosphere, not what others are wearing) while not compromising their own personal style—otherwise it looks and feels like they’re in costume.
As usual, a link to the entire set of looks is at the end of this post.
These are casual daytime looks: running errands, being dressed at home, breakfast or lunch, grabbing a coffee in town….Layering is key given Nantucket can run warm, hot, and cool. I’d wear the royal blue poplin from my favorite British button up brand, WNU, fully open with the fitted black tank underneath. The Rabanne bag changes the entire vibe. You could do a standard canvas or raffia tote too, but it is more basic and a bit boring. (Click here for me-approved summer bags).
The nautical sweater is mens, get ready, Abercrombie (I can smell the body spray now)! They have some good mens nautical sweaters right now for lounging or bringing to the beach as an oversized cozy top for when the sun starts to set and it gets cold. Top things off with a shell claw clip for your hair. Also the rope sandals remind me of camp…or fishing…and other such things. So fun.
Jumping into evening because I love this Posse linen bow top. I would wear it as styled, with slightly oversized denim and the white high thong heels. You could style it with a white oversized trouser as well but it does change the look to be preppier and slightly more mature. To keep things cool casual but with the white pant, go for something super oversized!
The black body suit with the white trouser is so easy for a night out and the limited Bottega bag and those white heels work perfectly with it. The necklace is a major splurge (I have a similar but much more affordable option on my jewelry board), though the style I included here is ideal.
Beach/pool day! This look really doesn’t need much explanation. And yes, I would go from beach to Cisco Brewers (if I was ever so inclined) in the Ciao Lucia knit set if it was a cooler day— it also works for a boat day with a bathing suit underneath. Of course a summer necklace can bring chicness to the simplest of looks.
Easy daytime popping in and out of shops looks. I paired the checkered skirt with thin band Havaianas for an effortless vibe. I also love the charm flip-flops against the most amazing blue and white maxi dress with bold black sunnies. The Khaite bag with a cutie charm brings even more joy to the look. No Labubus please…ever.
